Karen joined BPS in January 2019 as Interim Director of Qualifications and Standards and now oversees the following departments:
Karen has a proven track record, at senior management level, of working on strategic learning and development projects with professional and expert bodies in the UK and abroad, including the Royal Society of Medicine, the General Optical Council, the Chartered Institute of Insurance, the Association of Business Executives, the Association of Corporate Treasurers and the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply.
Christina Buxton CPsychol AFBPsS is a Chartered Psychologist, Associate Fellow of the BPS, and a Chartered Scientist.
She is a member of the Division of Teachers and Researchers in Psychology, the Division of Occupational Psychology, and the Division of Counselling Psychology.
Christina is also senior practitioner member of the BPS Register of Psychologists Specialising in Psychotherapy, and on the BPS Register of Applied Psychology Practice Supervisors.
In addition she is a registered psychotherapist with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a member of EMDR UK and Ireland, and an accredited member of Emotional Freedom Technique international (EFTi).
Christina is the past chair and treasurer of the BPS Crisis, Disaster and Trauma Section, a member of the BPS Research Board and the Representative Council. Christina is a member of the BPS Psychological Testing Centre (PTC) and is on the Register of Qualifications in Test Use (RQTU). She is a member of the PTC Committee on Test Standards (CTS) and a member of the CTS Health and Social Care Contexts Working Group.
Katherine Carpenter CPsychol FBPsS is a Consultant Clinical Psychologist with a 30 year track record within the NHS in acute Neurosciences, which combined clinical work, teaching and training, and research, together with a wide clinical leadership and management remit.
During her time at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust she served terms of office as Lead Clinician for Neurosurgery, Clinical Director for Neurosciences and Specialist Surgery, and Co-Director for Psychological Medicine.
At the same time, Katherine also served as Head of Psychological Services and an Honorary Senior Lecturer within Oxford University.
Her main areas of specialism were epilepsy surgery, functional neurosurgery and neuro-oncology.
She is currently in her second term of office as Chair of the Division of Neuropsychology’s Executive Committee, and since February 2020 has also been deputy chair of the society’s Practice Board and a member of the Ethics Committee.

Nicola Gale CPsychol, FBPsS is Vice President and Treasurer of the European Federation of Psychologists’ Associations (EFPA). She is EFPA’s Executive Council lead for psychology and climate change and response to COVID-19, representative to the Global Psychology Alliance, and the liaison for EFPA’s relationship with the American Psychological Association.
Nicola has been President of The British Psychological Society and represented UK psychology in Europe and internationally. She has participated in international conferences across Europe, in North America, and Asia Pacific. She has worked both in a university role, at City, University of London, and as a clinical lead and service manager in mental health and organisational development in the UK National Health Service.
Nicola has worked at director level in HR and organisational development, and training. As a management consultant and director in a large professional services firm she had international management consultancy and operational management experience. She is a former chartered accountant.
James is a qualified careers adviser and is the Careers Manager with the BPS. Having worked in higher education careers for the past 10 years, James now works at the BPS developing a strategy to support the careers of members and those with an interest in psychology.
Debra Malpass joined the BPS in January 2020 as Director of Knowledge and Insight. She is responsible for the Research and Evaluation, Practice, Data and Analytics and Diversity and Inclusion teams and the History of Psychology Centre.
She has a Ph.D in psychology and a wealth of experience as an academic researcher having worked in psychology departments in the UK and USA for over a decade. Prior to joining the BPS, Debra worked as a senior researcher at AQA, the UK’s largest exam board. In this post she designed GCSE, A-level and vocational qualifications and carried out statistical analysis to set exam grade boundaries every summer.
Debra also led the Research and Analysis team at the Solicitors Regulation Authority, where she pioneered the use of machine learning, behavioural science and randomised controlled trials to regulate the legal market.

Emily manages the marketing team at the British Psychological Society.
Emily graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA Hons in History and Spanish and has spent all of her career working in marketing roles within the charity sector.
She has worked in and managed marketing teams in a number of membership organisations, including the Woodland Trust and the Royal Air Forces Association before joining the BPS in March 2020.
Claire Tilley is the Head of Workforce Education, Training and Standards at the British Psychological Society where she is responsible for delivering on the society’s strategic aims in relation to education and training.
This includes leading on the programme accreditation, careers and workforce development activities. Prior to joining the society in 2018, Claire worked for over 13 years across a range of areas including quality assurance, postgraduate research, international education partnerships and apprenticeships, also leading on the operational implementation of an international pathway college.
Personally, Claire takes a keen interest in how education access and attainment can improve social mobility, diversity and inclusivity in education and the broader impact of education and training on both individuals and Society.
Bijal is the Relationship Manager, Conference and Events at the British Psychological Society where she oversees the event provision. Bijal has gained over 14 years’ experience of organising academic conferences, exhibitions and CPD events on behalf of the Society.
